Blogger's Note:
I began my walking diary on 10/14/2016. However, it wasn't until November, that I set up this blogging site. That explains discrepancies in dates/times mentioned in early entries, and the shown date of posting. For chronological list of posts, please click on the blog archive link in the right side column under my profile.

Graduation Day

It's Friday, October 14, 2016. It's my birthday, and according to the great American philosopher and recording artist Jimmy Buffet, it's my 62nd trip around the sun ... in other words, I'm 62-years-old.

Today I graduated from physical therapy for both of my new "bionic" knees. I'm the proud owner of two titanium and polymer knees. I had my left total knee replacement in January, and my right total replacement in June. I've been going to physical therapy (PT) since February - three weeks after the first surgery - then taking three weeks off following the second surgery and getting back into the PT grind in July. My physical therapists and physical therapy assistants have been wonderful. After spending so much time working with these dedicated physical therapists/torturers and the PT team, they almost all seem like family or close friends ... at least until they say, "give me three more series of 10 exercises on each leg.

This week I've seen my ortho doctor friend who has given me the "go ahead" to start my training for the 2017 Crescent City Classic. My orthopedic surgeon, who removed the broken remnants of the knees my mother grew for me back in 1954, has given me his "blessing" to start my training. Also putting their "stamps of approval" on my new training routine are my physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, and my two primary physical therapy techs.

Everything is a "go" for me to get this new training regimen started. All the right people have said "yes," I've bought several pair of compression shorts to give my thighs some extra "umpf," used my car to trace a quarter mile track in the neighborhood, have charged my Fitbit Blaze, and picked up some new spiffy-colored socks to go with my newly purchased multi-colored running shoes. I'll be a sight to behold, and ready to roll ... tomorrow.

So, it’s one foot in front of the other to the finish line!
