It's day two and I have taken action to make this walk more enjoyable, or at least less painful. I've begun a quest to find ways to prevent - or at least reduce - body pain. Tonight I'm wearing compression shorts. These clingy, stretchy, shiny, slick shorts are meant to hold pressure on the thigh muscle to reduce muscle fatigue, and enhance blood flow. Good attributes. One other good point? I think they make my ass look smaller, which is a full-blown miracle. I ask, what's not to like about these new shorts?
Tonight my new shorts and I managed to do the quarter mile without so many aches and pains. My feet still hurt, my left ankle is still trying to make me a couch potato by swelling to the size of a potato, and my lower spine is fighting with my upper spine to see which can hurt the most.
On the positive side, I made this quarter mile without thinking of giving up my goal of walking the Crescent City Classic in April.
I'll admit I still had to ice body parts when I got home. The balls of my feet still hurt even with excellent cushioning in my shoes. Note to me: tomorrow find something to stop the left ankle swelling and pain, plus see if there are socks which can alleviate the foot pain. However, tonight, I am enthusiastic about my progress even if it is only moderate progress.
So, it’s one foot in front of the other to the finish line!
